HENDRIK (HENK) DEBRUYN January 18, 1935 - February 21, 2011 The family of Henk DeBruyn announces with sorrow his death at the age of 76. Henk leaves to mourn his loving wife, Fran of 49 years; his children, Astrid, Rick and Jake; their spouses Jean, Patricia and Joan; his grandchildren, Brayden, Olivia and James. He is remembered by his sisters and brothers and their spouses and many nieces and nephews in The Netherlands. He is also remembered by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nephews and nieces in Canada. Henk was born in Lemmer, The Netherlands on January 18, 1935. He immigrated to Canada in 1956. He earned theology degrees and served as a pastor in the Christian Reformed Church in Fredericton, NB, Windsor, ON, and Detroit, MI. In 1974, he came to Winnipeg and served as Director of Indian Family Centre for 26 years. He helped initiate and served on several community boards enabling a multi-faceted process of support and healing in Winnipeg's Native community. Even after his retirement, the community at Indian Family Centre continued to be at the centre of his life. Henk's family would like to thank all of the health care professionals who have treated him with such concern and care over the many years on his long journey with cancer. An intimate memorial circle will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at Indian Family Centre, 470 Selkirk Ave., followed by a general reception at 12:30 p.m. and a memorial service will be held on Friday, February 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Covenant Christian Reformed Church, 653 Knowles Ave., with a reception to follow.
