ELINOR BROWN (published on February 28, 2011)

ELINOR BROWN Elinor passed away peacefully at Park Manor Personal Care Home on February 24, 2011 with her loving family at her side. She is survived by her devoted husband of almost 60 years, Ron, as well as her three children, Robert (Ann), Diana (Michael) and Marianne (Art), six grandchildren, Margaux, Ian, Robert, Erin, Jacqueline, and Lee. She will also be missed by her sisters, Anna (Bill), Midge (Frank), and brother Will. Elinor was predeceased by her parents, Stanley and Magdelena Bednarek, her brother, Ben, sister, Mary, sister-in-law Lori and brother-in-law Gordon. Elinor was born in Ashern, Manitoba on May 19, 1930. She grew up in Steep Rock, on Lake Manitoba, where she enjoyed a very active, outdoor life. At age 16, Elinor left Steep Rock for the big city of Winnipeg where she trained to be a stenographer. She married Ron on May 26, 1951. The next few years were very busy for the young family - three children in three years and a move in 1956 to their new home in Transcona. Elinor was a modern woman, working as a stenographer, then office manager, while raising her three kids with Ron. Through the years, Elinor was very involved with her church community, Blessed Sacrament Parish (Catholic Women's League, Larche, and Parish secretary). She met most of her friends through her church and enjoyed her life with great passion. After retirement, Ron and Elinor spent many happy years in British Columbia curling, golfing, walking, and enjoying life to the fullest. At 60, Elinor was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In spite of this, she met this challenge head on, and continued to live her life fully. She was an inspiration to all of us with her courage and strength as she faced the many pitfalls of her disease. In 2007, unable to remain at home with Ron, Elinor began her stay at Park Manor Personal Care Home in Transcona. We would like to thank the staff at Park Manor for their kindness, compassion and care during these last few years. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to either the Parkinson's Society of Manitoba or to the Park Manor Building Fund. A Celebration of Elinor's Life will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Parish, Transcona.
