EDWIN ARTHUR RASMUSSEN (published on March 05, 2011)
EDWIN ARTHUR RASMUSSEN June 4, 1938 to March 1, 2011 It is with great sadness that the Rasmussen family announces the passing of Edwin Arthur Rasmussen on Tuesday, March 1, 2011, at the age of 72 years, after a short and courageous battle with cancer. Edwin was born on June 4, 1938 in Vita, MB. He attended West St. Paul School in Middlechurch, MB, until 1957, when he joined the RCMP. He was part of the RCMP Musical Ride in 1958. His first posting was in North Battleford, SK and he went on to work in numerous other RCMP detachments in Saskatchewan including Green Lake, SK. He retired from the RCMP as a Staff Sergeant in 1977. He then joined the Saskatchewan Provincial Government Justice Department as the Director of the Farm Ownership Board and retired completely in 1995. While he resided in Pike Lake, SK, Edwin served as the Councilor for Division One in the RM of Vanscoy #345. He spent many an hour on the farm doing many things especially caring for a wide variety of livestock, from chickens to goats to pigs to cows to foxes and mink! Edwin was always part of the communities that he lived in. He coached hockey, he was the President of the Saskatoon Retriever Club and President of the Saskatchewan Fur Breeders Association. He returned to Green Lake, SK with his wife Joan in 2001 and built a beautiful place by the lake to enjoy the rest of retirement. Even though he was supposed to be retired, he served on the Green Lake Communications Board and the Beaver River Regional Housing Authority. Outside of all this, he was either fishing, hunting, cutting his grass, checking his dock or feeding his birds. Edwin was always extremely generous. He always opened his home up to everyone and would always offer the world to make sure anyone would feel welcome. Whenever anyone would come over for supper, Have some more he'd say, even if you were full to the brim, Have some more . But, if you wanted to go fishing, he'd say Five Bucks or if someone wanted to borrow something, it was Yup, Five Bucks . Everything, jokingly, was Five Bucks . He was the King of Jokesters. You always had a laugh when you were with Eddy!! Edwin was predeceased by his mother Alice Rasmussen, his father Harold Rasmussen, older brother Gordon Rasmussen, his mother-in-law Connie Downie and his father-in-law Jack Downie. Edwin is survived by his loving wife Joan; three sons, Stuart (Val) Rasmussen, Jason (Tina) Rasmussen and Lorin (LeeAnn) Rasmussen. His grandchildren, Laura, Daniel, Kayelyn, Andrew, Brody, Nathan and Brianna.
