NORMAN SMITH (published on March 05, 2011)

NORMAN SMITH 1929 - 2011 In the early morning hours of February 24, 2011, Dad passed away peacefully in the arms of his loving wife and daughters. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years, Shirley; son, Wayne (Carley, Michelle, Joshua); daughters; Wendy (Tony, Anthony, Kira, Darian) and Wanda ( Brian, Aidan, Alexis, Jaggar); and in-laws Donna and Barrie Buchanan and family and John and Linda Tomes and family. Dad often joked about living til 100 . Although this was not to be, he lived a good life accomplishing so much. As a young man Dad worked as an engraver and in the Eaton's mail order. This is where Mom and Dad met. They led a busy life as tourist camp operators, working in the beautiful wilderness and providing so many with the opportunity to experience our Great Canadian Outdoors. Dad's passion was hockey and he spent many winters coaching, playing, making ice and operating his own Pro Shop at the Sargent Park Arena. A staunch Liberal Party supporter, he met weekly with other friends and worked tirelessly on topics of interest such as the Flood. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 10, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel in Selkirk, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
