DOREEN VIOLA MATILDA LOUSIER (published on March 05, 2011)

DOREEN VIOLA MATILDA LOUSIER (nee CAVERLY) 1924 - 2011 Peacefully on February 23, 2011 Doreen passed away at the Concordia Hospital after suffering a massive stroke. She is survived by her son Rick; daughter Denise (Bill) and grandsons Jason (Suzanne), Jordan (Micka) and Cory. She was predeceased by her loving husband Arthur and sons Maurice and Vaughn. Doreen was born in Bowsman, Manitoba on August 14, 1924 and was the youngest of five children. She grew up on a farm and often talked about how she went to school by horse or dog sled. She moved to Winnipeg as a young adult and she and Art were married as soon as he returned from the war in January, 1946. In 1958 they built their dream home in North Kildonan where they remained until Art's passing in 2009. She always worked in the secretary field and many will remember her as the secretary at Princess Margaret School. Art and Doreen retired in 1975 and spent the next 25 years as snowbirds heading to Mesa, Arizona to escape the long, cold Winnipeg winters. Doreen loved to play Bingo and in later years she and Art would spend happy Saturday (and sometimes also Tuesday or Thursday) nights at Club Regent. Doreen and Art loved to travel and were off cruising three, four or five times a year. They also traveled to the Orient many, many times. Although she was hard of hearing from the age of 21, she enjoyed a group card game and listening to music. She and Art were always the first couple out on the dance floor. Her family was very important to her and she treasured her three grandsons (although she had always hoped for a granddaughter). We would love to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Concordia Hospital and also a special thank you to Leni who was always there to lend her a helping hand. It is comforting to know she has joined her loving husband Art and they are together again. A celebration of Doreen's life will be held in June - time and date to be advised closer to the day. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to C.N.I.B., 1080 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3 or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 in her name.
