MARY KLASSEN (published on March 05, 2011)

MARY KLASSEN Peacefully, on March 2, 2011 with family at her bedside, Mary Klassen, aged 100 years, died at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home. Our mother, Mary (nee Langemann), was born May 1, 1910 in Lustigstal, Russia. When she grew up she was a very talented girl. She was good at singing and music and played the guitar in her early years. Mary had many friends. She also was converted to Jesus Christ as a young girl. At the age of 15 her family immigrated to Canada and came to Morden, Manitoba. Mary worked for other people and in the evenings learned English. In 1928 her family moved to North Kildonan. She was employed as a live-in domestic and came home every Thursday and Sunday. On November 8, 1931 she married Jakob Klassen. Jakob started a machine shop with his brothers while Mary kept house and raised their two children, John and Elfrida. After their children were grown they moved to Riverton to farm for 25 years and then retired to Winnipeg. In 1988 they moved to Donwood. Jacob passed away in 1995. Mary is survived by son John E. and Lydia and daughter Elfrida and Frank Penner; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister Olga Wiens. Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 6, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Friends Funeral Service, 2146 Main St. Winnipeg. Interment in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens at a later date. Our family is thankful for the tender loving care Mary received at Donwood Manor Personal Care Home. If friends so desire, donations may be made to Donwood Manor.
