IRMA ELAINE SCHWARTZ (published on March 05, 2011)

IRMA ELAINE SCHWARTZ (Suderman) March 13, 1925 - March 1, 2011 It is with a deep sense of loss that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister Irma Schwartz. She fought a short and courageous battle with cancer and passed away peacefully at the Lakeshore General Hospital in Ashern, MB on March 1, 2011. Irma is survived by her brother Harold (Wilma); sister Margaret; brothers-in-law Ben and Art; sister-in-law Phyllis; children Dave (Pat), Rob (Judy), Rick (Linda), Ron (Lorna), Reg (Janice), Janet (Art), John (Brigette), Graham (Elaine) as well as 21 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joe, her parents Marie and Jacob Suderman and great-granddaughter Jasmine. Mom was born in Rosenfeld, MB and lived her early years in various communities in southern Manitoba along with a short stint in California. She attended Normal School and then took a teaching position at Idylwild School east of Ashern. It is here that she met her husband, Joe. Married shortly after, they proceeded to raise their family of eight children. Summer months were spent at the cottage at Silver Bay where we all had a great time - usually with several cousins on loan for the summer. Mom was a 4-H leader for many years and was involved in the building and fundraising for the Ashern Centennial Hall. She enjoyed music, curling, and later, cheering on her favourite teams. Once time permitted, Mom started painting and numerous artworks were produced and now adorn her children's homes. Scrabble was also a passion and Mom and her sister-in-law Daphne had many nail biters. Joe and Irma enjoyed many winter golfing holidays in the south and travelled Canada from coast to coast. Irma also enjoyed numerous trips from the Caribbean to Europe and Australia with Margaret, Harold and Wilma. She also looked forward to visiting Margaret and family and Diane and Carey and family on Vancouver Island. She took a keen interest in her grandchildren's pursuits and was very proud of all of them. Irma will always be remembered for the unconditional love she felt for her family. A private celebration of Mom's life will be held on Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Ashern Legion Hall with Pastor Bill Watson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, in care of Julie Bergner, PO Box 721, Ashern, MB R0C 0E0 or to CancerCare Manitoba, ON1160, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9. The family would like to thank Helen Webster of HomeCare, Dr. Ramadan and all the nursing staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for the excellent care Mom received.
