HELEN LAVERNA YARD (published on March 05, 2011)



HELEN LAVERNA YARD (nee FOWLER) Suddenly on Monday, February 28, 2011 Helen passed away at the Grace Hospital at the age of 88 years. She has been residing at the Wellington Retirement Home for several years prior to her passing. Left to cherish Helen's memory is son Doug Yard (Riekie); son-in-law Terry D'Aoust; grandchildren Tami Paskaruk (Terry), Ronald D'Aoust (Kim), Amanda Connell (Jared), Lisa Poetker (Henry), Chris Yard (Shannon); great- grandchildren Jenna, Matthew, Brayden, Olivia, Max, Aaron, Holly, Jesse and Emma; as well as sisters Bernice Towpich, Alice Lowis, Marg Zankl and Dorothy Hampton; brothers Harry Fowler (Marg), Jack Fowler (Helen), Ray Fowler (Jill); sister-in-law Rita Fowler and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; husband George; daughter Patricia; brothers Don (Rita), Jim (Doris) and Gordon (Doris); as well as brothers-in-law Eric Lowis, Ray Hampton and Fred Zankl. Helen was raised by her parents Gordon and Delia Fowler together with many brothers and sisters on the family farm at Halkirk, AB. She finished her education in Calgary where she met and married George Carr Yard. Their children Patricia and Douglas soon joined the family. Her husband's work took the family to many locations in Alberta, BC and later Manitoba where they resided in Thompson, Churchill and The Pas before retiring to Dauphin in 1987. Following the passing of her husband George and daughter Pat, Helen moved to Winnipeg to be close to her son Doug and family. In compliance with Helen's wishes no Funeral Service will be held. Interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Helen's memory may be made to the Children's Hospital, CE 501 840 Sherbrook Street, Winnipeg, MB R3C 3J2. Helen's family was her life's work and she will be missed by all .
