VERLA ISABEL MACDONALD (published on March 05, 2011)

VERLA ISABEL MACDONALD (SMITH) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our mom and grandmother, Verla MacDonald (Smith) on February 24, 2011 at the Minnedosa District Hospital with family at her side. She leaves to cherish her memory her children Jeff, Donna (Doug Glasgow), Craig (Karen Nicolajsen), grand-children Sydnee, Morgan, Rees and Zane, brother Raymond, and sisters Ladena, Gladys, Alma and Fern (Joe), sister in law Micki (Mel) and brother-in-law Glenn. Verla was predeceased by her husband Richard in 2007. Born and raised the 10th of 12 children of William and Ethel Smith on the family farm in Birnie, MB. Verla moved to Winnipeg to work at Ogilvie Feedmill and Traveller's Insurance. She met and married Dick. They lived in Virden then Winnipeg before moving back to the family farm in Franklin to raise their three children. Verla was a very loving mother and grandmother. She welcomed all into her home always room for one more at the table. Verla enjoyed word puzzles, sports, card games and visiting with family and friends. A huge enjoyment was watching her grandchildren play sports. She was a fixture at the local rink for Rees and Zane's hockey. She had a great sense of humour and always a champion of the underdog. The family wishes to thank the many friends and family who visited Verla both at home and at hospital. We wish to thank the wonderful staff of Minnedosa District Hospital and Home Care. A celebration of Mom's life was held on Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Minnedosa United Church at 2:00 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to Manitoba Lung Association, 940 Princess Ave., Brandon, MB R7A 0P6 or to Minnedosa Regional Events Centre, PO Box 1425 Minnedosa, MB R0J 1E0. Mom was much loved and will be deeply missed. Minnedosa Funeral Service in care of arrangements. (204) 867-3868.
