KATHLEEN (KAE) JANE SPEER (published on March 05, 2011)

KATHLEEN (KAE) JANE SPEER Kathleen (Kae) Jane Speer (nee St. George), 89, went to be with the Lord, February 25, 2011, surrounded by her family at Kin Place Personal Care Home in Oakbank. She is fondly remembered by her children Darryl (Colleen), Clifford, Jane, Murray, Sarah, John (Usha) and Sharon (John) Hayduk; grandchildren Timothy, Drew and Christopher Hayduk, Nicholas, Sarah and Rebecca Speer; brother Bryan St. George; sister-in-law Shirley St. George; many nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, her brothers Clarence and Dennis, and her sister Doris. Kae was born March 21, 1921 in Anola, and lived in Springfield all her life. She trained as a teacher and taught school before marrying Oakbank farmer Harold Speer in 1946. She was widowed in 1956 with seven children under the age of 10. She then returned to teaching to support her family. During this time she completed her Bachelor of Arts at the UofW and took courses in early childhood education. She retired in 1985. Following her retirement she took courses in counselling at Providence College and became a volunteer with the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Winnipeg. She enjoyed family related travels to the British Isles, Republic of Congo, and across Canada. Kae's faith was the mainstay of her life. She was a charter member of Tabor Baptist Church in Transcona and was very active in its ministries. She faithfully supported numerous mission organizations. She spent many summers as the head cook at Bird River Bible Camp. Kae was renowned for her generous spirit, her love of life, her deep faith, and her devotion to her family. Our special thanks to those who went the extra mile in caring for Kae at the Kin Place Personal Care Home. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in the Oakbank Baptist Church, 26033 Springfield Rd., Oakbank. A private interment will be held at a later date.
