BERNARD (BEN) FAST (published on March 28, 2011)



BERNARD (BEN) FAST Bernard Fast passed away at the St. Boniface General Hospital on March 23, 2011. Ben was born on April 6, 1924 in Tiegerweide, Russia to Katarina and Gerhard Fast. He immigrated with his family to Canada later in that year. He is survived by his brothers-in-law, Gerald May, and Joseph McInnis (Audrey) and sisters-in-law Pauline McGinnis and Gail Power, and numerous nieces and nephews. Ben was predeceased by his parents; his brothers John (Katie), Jake (Tena), Cornelius; and sisters Anne Holloway (Dan) and Kay May. He graduated from Boissevain High School and served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from 1942-1945. Following graduation from the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Engineering in 1950, he worked for the Canadian Pacific Railway as Deputy Regional Engineer Prairie Region. He met his future wife, Mary Patricia McGinnis at the CPR and they were married in 1970. Ben was an avid golfer and long-time member of the Elmhurst Golf Club. Ben leaves many family and friends to mourn and celebrate his life. He will be missed. Family and close friends will gather in Holy Angel Mausoleum in Green Acres Cemetery on Wednesday March 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
