ELLEN CHARLOTTE VIDAL (published on April 13, 2011)



ELLEN CHARLOTTE VIDAL It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother on April 7, 2011. Ellen will be deeply missed by daughter Sigrun (Robert) Becker, children: Lori (Kevin) Turcan, Paul Becker, Brenda (Scott) Sychareun; daughter Valdine (Rene) Benjamin, children: Jennifer (Sean) Kovacic and Renee (Darcy) Brewer; daughter Shirley (Dave) Mager, children: Christy, Jamie and Trevor; son Gordon (Bernadette) Vidal, children: Nicole and Monica; daughter Gladys Scaramuzzi, children: Katrina, Marcus and Sergio; sons Herman and Christopher Vidal. She will also be remembered by her great-grandchildren: Joseph, Alyssa, Kaidyn, Jayna, Dominic, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mom is survived by her mother Bertha Alexander; brother Kristjan (Adeline); sisters: Joan, Florence and Janice (Bob), sister-in-law Lynn. She was predeceased by her husband Sigurdur, father Eliman, brothers Henry and Elmer. Ellen was born on August 22, 1934 at home in Arborg. She married Sigurdur and started to raise their family. Ellen was well known for her knitting skills. Everyone in the family had an afghan or slippers. She loved gardening, doing crosswords and was an avid reader. She had a beautiful singing voice and could even yodel. The family moved to Winnipeg where Ellen worked as a nurse's aide. Ellen will always be remembered for her generosity and sense of humour. We would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital Dialysis Unit for their loving care and the Palliative Unit for their gentleness and compassion for our mother. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Dialysis Unit at St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, D1003 409 Taché Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6 or to Ardal-Geysir Lutheran Church, Box 160, Arborg, MB R0C 0A0. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, in the Ardal/Geysir Lutheran Church with interment to follow at the Arborg Community Cemetery.
