MELENCIO ALEJANDRO ALVERO (published on April 13, 2011)

MELENCIO ALEJANDRO ALVERO December 1, 1919 - April 11, 2011 On April 11, 2011, Melencio passed away at the age of 91 years at Health Sciences Centre. Melencio was predeceased by his wife, Maximina and son, Adring. He is survived by his eight children: Guding, Robert, Dora, Elvie, Mercy, Rosie, Cesar, and Mario as well as 17 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather and a great friend to those who knew him. Melencio devoted his entire life looking after his family. He left his home in the Philippines to ensure a better life for his children. In Canada he took on the responsibility of taking care of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Despite the overwhelming amount of children, he succeeded in enforcing family values upon them. He refused to have anyone else take care of his family and believed that he should always be the one looking after all of us. He took on the responsibility of walking his grandchildren to school or to the park and looking after us when we were sick. He would never ask for a single dime in looking after his grandchildren because he believed that the value of family has no cost. Back home in the Philippines, he had the talent and passion of cultivating crops and gardening. He was always looking forward to the summers because he enjoyed walking around his neighbourhood and looking after his garden. During his final moments, he spent his time with his family gathered by his side. He was a strong fighter till the very end and we all appreciate and love his efforts in looking after all of us.
