ELSIE ALMA DEAN (published on September 07, 2011)

ELSIE ALMA DEAN (nee BELOWS) 1916 - 2011 It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Elsie Alma Dean on September 2, 2011 at the wonderful age of 95. Elsie was born in Leebank, Manitoba, August 9, 1916. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 43 years James (Art) Dean, her parents Mary and John Belows, sisters Evelyn and Arlene, and brothers John and Artie. She leaves behind her sisters Dorothy (David) Blain, Margaret (Mel) Jarvis, sister-in-law Jean Belows and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews. Elsie always worked hard to help family and friends. Her career took off when she worked for the Labour Department and became the first women director of the Employment Standards Division until 1978. After retiring, Elsie and Art enjoyed many years of travel throughout Canada, USA, and overseas. In 1979, they settled down in their Winnipeg home at Kiltarton Towers and their winter home in Dundee, Florida. Where she enjoyed over 20 years of missing Winnipeg winters. We would like to thank all the special people who contributed to Elsie's last years of happiness, number one, being family and friends. To Lisa for the love, care, fun and silliness they shared. Thanks to the nurses and doctors on the fifth floor at Grace Hospital and to the staff and management at Tuxedo Villa and especially the wonderful staff and management at West Park Manor. Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, Elsie's wishes were that contributions be made to CancerCare or CancerCare Children's Hospital Research. I'm Free Don't grieve for me, for I am free I'm following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day To laugh, to love or work or play My life's been full, I savoured much Good friends, good times, a loved ones touch Perhaps my life seemed all to brief Don't lengthen it now with undo grief Lift up your heart and share with me God wanted me now....He set me free!
