PETER WOWCHUK At his home on September 5, 2011 on a beautiful, bright summer day at the age of 91 years, Peter Wowchuk slipped from his earthly bonds into the hands of his Eternal Father. Peter was born on October 18, 1919, second son of Mike and Pauline Wowchuk of Brooksby, SK. Peter was one of four sons, John, Steve, and Bill, and six sisters, Ann, Katie, Emily, Mary, Lena, and Helen. Peter attended Maryville School until grade nine, and then worked on the family farm until 1940. In June of that year, he started his career with the Canadian National Railways in Whittome, SK as a section man. On June 9, 1946 he married the love of his life, Pauline, daughter of Michael and Anne Arsenie. Peter and Pauline resided in Whittome, SK until 1953. Later that year, Peter moved with his family, which now included daughters Shirley and Darlene to Saskatoon, SK where he worked in the CNR shops for a number of years on various road gangs as a mechanic and welder. Their family grew to include Pat, Connie, and their first son Terry. In 1966, the family transferred to Winnipeg, MB with Peter's promotion to assistant foreman in the CNR Transcona Shops. In 1969, their last child David was added to the family. Peter had several other promotions, which made him a Field Supervisor of work equipment in the Lake Head, Hudson Bay, and Assiniboine areas until he took an early retirement in 1979 at the age of 60. Peter was an active member of St. Michael's Church, St. Michael's Brotherhood, Knights of Columbus, and the Friendly Settlers. Peter leaves to mourn his beloved wife of 65 years, Pauline (nee Arsenie), children Shirley (Ralph) Norek, Darlene (Larry) Cox, Pat (Wayne) Hawthorn, Connie (Rolf) Baumbusch, Terry (Donna) Wowchuk, and David (Michelle) Wowchuk.
