DONALD CAMPBELL (published on September 09, 2011)

DONALD CAMPBELL 1929 - 2011 With deep sadness and sorrow, we mourn the passing of Donald Campbell who passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on September 5, 2011, at the Victoria Hospital. Donald was born November 11, 1929 in Winnipeg, where he spent his childhood and teenage years, spending many of his summers at Winnipeg beach. His first job was at Phillips, Gutkin and Associates. After meeting the love of his life, Willy, they married on November 23, 1957 and shortly after moving to Brandon, Manitoba and then moving to California where he worked as a cinematographer for eight years. Moving back to Winnipeg in 1970, Donald would eventually end up working for the Manitoba Department of Education, retiring in spring of 1993. During their 54 years of marriage they had four children and six grandchildren. Donald's early passion in life was canoeing with his best friend Bill Mason. While Bill sketched, Donald pursued his hobby of photography. Later, he carried on this passion for camping and photography with his family. Donald also loved to sing whenever and where ever there was a tune in his head. He sang with many singing groups as well. Many a person, whether he knew you or not enjoyed his quick wit and humour, even in his last days. His favourite saying was ...the best five dollars I ever spent was for the marriage license to marry my dear wife Willy. Predeceased by his mother Elizabeth, father Joseph, stepfather William, brother Billy, half sisters Jean, Ivy and Rosemary, Donald is survived by his loving wife Willy, son Terrance (Rhonda) Campbell, daughters Ingrid (Wayne) Currah, Karen (Bryan) Bramley, and Yvonne (Paul Egg ) Elson. Six grandchildren, Cypris, Shayn, Courtney, Jonathan, Andrew and Leland. Sister Lynn Moderow, brother David (Donna) Robertson, nephews Reid and Ryan, and niece Sharon Goertson. A private burial service for the family will be held on September 17, 2011. The family wishes to extend an invitation to all of his friends and those who knew him to celebrate his life on Saturday, September 17 between 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations may be made in his memory to the charity of their choice. The family of Donald would like to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Salem and the nursing staff on unit 4 at the Victoria Hospital.
