MARY LOUISE BELL (published on September 10, 2011)

MARY LOUISE BELL (nee DALY) It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Louise Bell on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at St. Boniface Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Left to cherish Mary's memory are, husband John; daughter Gayleen (Jim); sons John (Tim), Paul (Sylvia) and Russell (Lois); grandchildren Avery, Lily, Hailey, Devon and Airianna; brothers Cyril (Phyllis), Jerry and Edward; sister-in-law Hilda; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sister Patricia and brothers Robert, Jack, Jim, Donald, Thomas and William. Mary was very outgoing, interesting and at times frank, but always very kind and considerate and set people at ease. She was always the life of the party; she would sing, dance and tell jokes. Mary danced like no one's watching, or so that everyone will. She always cheered for the underdog. Kids, pets, friends family were always welcome to play at our house or cottage. Mary put people first and worried about the mess later. Growing up in a large family, Mary was loved by her siblings, nieces and nephews. Her dedication to her children was strong, including driving them to swim practice at 5:00 a.m. on the coldest of winter mornings. They benefitted by her love, devotion and encouragement to be kind and caring, and to lead good lives. Together, Mary and John built their cottage at West Hawk Lake in 1958 where they had many years of enjoyment and fun with family and friends. She loved spending winters in Mesa, Arizona (17 years) where she and John made good friends and participated in community activities, including volunteering at the local thrift shop. Together with John, Mary enjoyed her Rita Street home for 52 years, surrounded by good neighbours. Mary was a gifted cooking instructor and salesperson, and worked for many years as a Panasonic microwave oven demonstrator in Winnipeg, North-Western Ontario and Northern Manitoba, and was occasionally on TV. She later went on to be the proud co-owner of Hands-On Microwave Cooking with her friend and business partner Sue Hayes. In her cooking classes, just as in all areas of her life, Mary could make everyone laugh and feel comfortable with her humour, charm and friendly personality, and enjoy the meal. On numerous occasions she worked with cooking expert Madame Benoit, and kept her and the crowd laughing. The family would like to invite everyone to a Celebration of Life for Mary in the Holiday Inn at 2520 Portage Avenue on Saturday, September 10, 2011 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Interment with the family will be at a later date in the Bell Plot in Elmwood Cemetery. The entire family wishes to thank the doctors (Mary's basketball team) and staff at the Health Sciences Centre Woman's Pavilion B524, the doctor's basketball team and staff at the St. Boniface Hospital B4014 for the excellent and loving care given to her.
