ROBERT (BOB) ERIC ERICKSON (published on September 13, 2011)

ROBERT (BOB) ERIC ERICKSON It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Robert Eric Erickson (Bob), 67, of Selkirk, Manitoba, on September 9, 2011. He was born August 18, 1944 in Lundar, Manitoba, the son of Rakel and Gudjon Erickson, the oldest of seven siblings. On June 1, 1968, Bob married Carol Magnusson. Bob started work at 16 for Sigfusson's where he hauled fuel and supplies on a Cat-train up north. He then moved on to road construction followed by his career at Manitoba Hydro for 34 years, where he was well respected and missed when he retired in 1999. During Bob's long career at Hydro, he helped many others get their start. He also had a hobby farm in Lundar, where he and Carol enjoyed many summers with their family and friends. In 1996 they took up the new hobby of horseracing at Assiniboia Downs where he enjoyed the ponies and made many valuable lifelong friends. Bob was a loving husband and proud father, who also cherished every moment he had with his grandchildren. He has a large family, many friends and will be missed and remembered by all. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Robin (Graham, Tori and Tana), son Thor (Chris, Tyler and Kelsey), and son Eric (Jamey, Ericka and Aiden); also by brothers Ken (Betty), Emil (Ingrid), Larry (Karen) and Jerry (Debbie), sisters Alfreda (Tom) and Alice (Brian), brother-in-law Jerry Magnusson (Joyce), sister-in-law Marlene Hourd and many nieces and nephews and valued friends whom he dearly loved. Bob was predeceased by his parents Rakel and Gudjon, his father and mother-in-law Joe and Esther, and his sister-in-law Lenore. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Home, 309 Eveline St. in Selkirk, Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his name to Canadian Diabetes Association, Siloam Mission, or a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
