MARGARET JEAN MORRICE Margaret Jean Morrice, Jean' to all who knew her, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2011. Born in Hamiota, Manitoba in 1922 she was predeceased by her parents John and Mary Morrice, her siblings Sandy Morrice and Molly Black, her niece Jean Morrice, and her nephew Chuck Morrice. Jean graduated from the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal as a RN in 1948, after which she nursed in Ste. Agathe des Monts, Winnipeg, Nanaimo, France with the R.C.A.F., Winnipeg once again and Comox. Following her retirement in 1987 Jean was very active in her community, volunteering with handicapped swimming and therapeutic riding programs, the Red Cross and her church, St. George United. She also had a lifelong passion for travel which took her to many corners of the globe. Her other interests included golf, curling, bowling and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Her love of Scotland manifested itself each January 25 as she toasted Robert Burns with a wee dram'. Jean was a very social person who will be greatly missed by her wide circle of friends, her neighbours, and her surviving family: sister-in-law Terry Morrice, niece Katherine, nephews Ed (Grace) and Ian (Cynthia), niece-in-law Lynne Marie, great-niece Juli (Michael), great-nephew Matthew (Tiffany), and great-great-nieces and nephew Emma, Cameron and Claire. A celebration of Jean's life was held on September 10 at St. George's United Church, Courtney, BC. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the Hamiota Cemetery. Donations in memory of Jean may be made to the Canadian Red Cross, the British Columbia Association for Community Living, or a charity of choice.
