ARTHUR PULAK (published on September 14, 2011)

ARTHUR PULAK On Sunday, September 11, 2011 at Holy Family Nursing Home Arthur Pulak, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away at the age of 105. Dad was born April 16, 1906 in Hermakiuka Borshchew Region of Western Ukraine. He came to Canada in 1927 to Sifton. Later he went to Bowsman to work in a sawmill and bush camp. Six months later he met the love of his life, Annie Danyluk and married two years later. They moved to Ethelbert in 1933 and purchased a farm. They spent many years there with their four children. In 1956, Dad and Mom went to work together on the extra gang as a cook and cookie. They retired in 1972 and settled in Winnipeg. Mom and Dad entertained many people every Christmas and Easter. No one left hungry and everyone enjoyed Gigi's studenets. He lived life to the fullest and was very active, planting his own garden, maintaining his home until last year. He also was an active parishioner at St. Andrew's Church. He was a man of great faith. He was the most kind, gracious, considerate and social man. Everyone loved him. He was called the candy man as no one left his place without receiving a candy or chocolate bar. He came to Holy Family Nursing Home after a fall and some health issues. He is survived by his daughter Maryann Klasz, Winnipeg; son Joseph (Mickey), Thunder Bay; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine. He was predeceased by his wife Annie, son Arthur, daughter Elizabeth, daughter-in-law Florence, grandson Daniel, his parents, brothers, Monsignor Joseph Pulak, Onewfry, sisters Dotcha, Maria, Pearl and Tatiana. The family would like to thank the nursing staff of 5A, Dr. Babick, the Reverend Sisters and pastoral care staff, Father Leonard Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. and Archbishop Michael Bzdel who visited and prayed with Dad faithfully every day and lifted his spirits. Prayers will be on Thursday, September 15 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, September 16 at 10:00 a.m. also at St. Andrew's with Father Leonard Ratushniak, C.Ss.R. officiating. Interment will follow in Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Monsignor Joseph Pulak Foundation, Holy Family Nursing Home, or charity of your choice.
