VIVIENNE COHEN (published on September 14, 2011)

VIVIENNE COHEN A precious life was taken from us too soon. Vivienne (Winky) endured and finally succumbed to a ten month battle with ALS, in the comfort of her own home, on Sunday, September 11, 2011. She was fortunate enough to have had the most devoted, loving full-time primary caregiver, her husband David, as well as caregivers Shernette, Mandie, Christina, Nikkie and Marion who all assisted in providing Winky with the utmost comfort and compassion; helping David attend to her every need. We are grateful to them all, and of course, to her doctor who we consider our friend, Dr. Perrin Pleninger, whose kind, gentle manner and expertise guided us through this tremendous ordeal. Winky was truly a shining star. Her infectious smile brightened every room she entered. Her inner strength and courage was beyond comparison. Her conviction to beat breast cancer (2009) with dignity and grace inspired everyone. She enriched the lives of all those who knew her. Winky had the ability to amaze us with the breadth and depth of her knowledge of arts and entertainment. She was our very own Wikipedia. Her ability to instantly recall information relating to numerous topics left us all in awe. Her compassion for all living things, especially dogs and children, were her trademark. She was the beloved daughter of the late Lewis and Sonia Cohen. Winky will be lovingly remembered by David, Rochelle and Harry, Babette and Keith, Carol and Ricky, Arnie and Deena, and her extended family and friends at Benjamin's Park Memorial Chapel, 2401 Steeles Avenue W., (three lights west of Dufferin) for service on Wednesday, September 14 at 11:30 a.m. Interment Pardes Chaim Cemetery. Shiva 14 Didrickson Drive, Toronto. Donations may be made to The Vivienne Cohen Memorial Fund, c/o The Benjamin Foundation in support of ALS, 3429 Bathurst Street, M6A 2C3, 416-780-0324 or at www.benjamins.ca.
