EMILY (RUTH) HOLLIDAY (published on September 16, 2011)

EMILY (RUTH) HOLLIDAY It is with great sadness that the family of Ruth Holliday announces her peaceful passing on Monday, September 12, 2011 at the Grace Hospital in Winnipeg. Ruth was born February 8, 1914 in Souris to Fred and Ruth Whyte and after her mother's passing was raised by Fred and Lillian Whyte. She received her education in Portage la Prairie and attended Normal School in Winnipeg. She then taught in Fortier, MB for five years and in June 1939 married Ivan Holliday. Together they raised their three children, Gail, Gary and Heather in Oakville, MB where they farmed and spent many summers at Falcon Lake. Ruth went back teaching in the Oakville School in 1954. She became Principal and retired in 1974. She was a dedicated teacher and a good friend to those who knew her. Ruth enjoyed travelling, knitting, playing cards and watching sports. She was always ready for a new challenge. Family and friends were very important to her. Her favourite vacation spots were Falcon Lake and Hawaii, which she visited numerous times. In later years Ruth's passion was playing bridge with her friends at the Courts of St. James and Sturgeon Creek II. Ruth was predeceased by her husband Ivan, and her brother Bill (Ina). She will be lovingly remembered by Gail (El) Hay; Gary (Bette) Holliday; Heather (Fern) Legault; grandchildren Kent (Carrie) Hay, Stacie Hay; Amber Holliday, Erica (Kent) Hurst, Robyn (Rene) Ouellette, Amanda Holliday; Jeff (Nhu) Legault, Jodi Legault; great-grandchildren Emma and Braeden Hay; Breanne Timlick; Emily and Joey Hurst, Ryley Ouellette, Diago Holliday; Mylene Legault; Gabriel Wilson. Also her brothers Tom (Shirley) Whyte, Donald (Carole) Whyte, sister Diane Misselbrook, and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Ruth's life will be held on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at the Oakville Community Hall, 2:00 p.m. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Oakville School Library, Oakville, MB R0H 0Y0, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of choice. A Person So Very Rare She was a person so very rare, Whenever we needed her, she was always there. She shared our hopes, our joys, our tears, We are thankful for those precious years. Her life was unselfish, for others she lived Not to receive, but to always give. Treasure her God, in your Garden of Rest, For in our world, she was the best. Arrangements entrusted to: Ronald Moffit Memorial Services Portage la Prairie, MB.
