JEAN MAY SOLVASON (published on September 17, 2011)

JEAN MAY SOLVASON (nee MACKAY) It's with deep sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Jean May Solvason on August 19, 2011 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Jean was born October 1, 1917 in Winnipeg to Harry and Maud MacKay. Jean grew up on Elgin Avenue and graduated from Daniel McIntyre. After high school Jean took domestic work before she was hired at Rupert's Land College. It was there she met Florence who would later introduce her to the love of her life. After a short courtship, Jean and Palmer were married in Winnipeg on March 21, 1942. They began married life together in Alliston, ON while Palmer served in the army. After the war ended they returned to Winnipeg to make their home in the west end of the city. Together they raised their two daughters Judy and Betty. Jean continued to work at Eaton's first in the jewellery department and later in the china department until her retirement in 1985. Jean's life revolved around her family and home, she enjoyed travelling, her flower garden, and her greatest joy was the time she spent with her grandchildren as they grew up. Left to cherish her memory are, her husband Palmer, daughters Judy Davis (Jim), Betty Mitchell (Gord), grandchildren Kathleen Davis (Chris), Kristine Davis, Drew Mitchell, Kaylee Mitchell, sister Florence Pilgrim, sisters-in-law Florence Burke and Helen Larsson and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Charleswood Care Centre staff for their care and compassion during Jean's time there. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 24, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, 3030 Notre Dame Avenue (across from Brookside Cemetery). In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean's memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 4G2. NEIL BARDAL FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949-2200 nbardal.mb.ca
