HELEN VIVIAN MEIKLE (published on September 17, 2011)

HELEN VIVIAN MEIKLE (HOLMSTOM) On Wednesday, September 14, 2011, at the age of 83, Helen Vivian Meikle passed away peacefully after a short illness at the Riverview Care Centre. She was predeceased by her husband James Meikle; and survived by her children: son Greg Meikle and daughter-in-law Evelyn Meikle, daughter Valerie Curtis and son-in-law Anthony Curtis. She was also survived by her grand-children: Kirsten and Stephanie Meikle, Samantha and Andrew Curtis; and great-grandchild Julian Curtis. Helen was born in Kenora, Ontario and moved to Winnipeg at the age of 19. She was a bookkeeper for Modern Dairies until her marriage to Jim Meikle. They moved around Western Canada over the next several years and at every stop Helen was always involved with some kind of activity or group. She was especially proud of starting the swim program for the City of Yorkton recreational division. Helen loved to participate in sports like golf and swimming and it was the special friendships she formed that she liked the most. We would like to express our gratitude to the palliative care 3E unit at Riverview hospital. You helped to make Mom's journey a smooth and peaceful one. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, Manitoba R3T 0R3. There will be a private family graveside service only. She will be missed by her special friends and everyone is encouraged to celebrate Helen's life in their own way. Family and friends may sign a Book of Condolence at www.glenlawn.ca. Glen Lawn Funeral Home 982-7550
