MURIEL GEORGINA MAE BURDON (published on September 17, 2011)

MURIEL GEORGINA MAE BURDON (nee GREENWOOD) June 7, 1924 - September 13, 2011 Muriel passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at the Lion's Care Centre in the presence of her husband, of 64 years, and their children. Mom ( Honey ) was born on a farm outside Ernfold, Saskatchewan to Mary Louise Greenwood (Bohn) and Albert Thomas Greenwood, the youngest of five children. The family relocated to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan during mom's adolescence where she was schooled. Mom completed her RN at Moose Jaw General Hospital in 1946. After a year of nursing in Herbert, Muriel married Harry Burdon and did special nursing . They had three daughters before transferring to Winnipeg where two sons completed the family Jan, Joan (Larry) Spate, Pat (Mark) Meulman, Doug, and Fred (Meghan). Mom is survived by her husband Harry, her children, 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Nancy Greenwood, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and her dear friend Jack . Mom was a nurturer not only to her family but shared this in all aspects of her life. Mom nursed at The Health Sciences Centre (1966 to 1989), volunteered her time with youth groups, community, and the church. Mom enjoyed curling regularly and her favourite football team was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Mom supported her children.....and their friends in a diversity of activities - recitals, concerts, track meets, football and hockey games, soccer games, swimming, camping and home renovations to name but a few. Predeceased by her parents, parents-in-law John and Ann, sister Florence, brothers: Jim, Earl and Ed; sister-in-law: Sarah; brothers-in-law: Cameron, Jim, Bob and Clarence, son-in-law Paul, nephew Howie, and beloved Samoyed Freckie . We love you. We want to extend heartfelt thanks to all the staff of Lions Care Centre for the care and support given to mom and the family during her stay. We would also like to thank Neil Bardal Funeral Centre for their guidance through a difficult time. A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 17, 2011 at Churchill Park United Church, 525 Beresford Avenue. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with mom's commitment to the nursing profession and education, donations can be made in mom's memory to the Lion's Personal Care Centre Memorial Donation, Director of Spiritual Care, 320 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3B 2W6.
