DAVID UNRAU (published on September 17, 2011)

DAVID UNRAU, SR. Peacefully, on September 14, 2011, David Unrau, Sr. passed away at Teulon Hospital. Dave will be missed by his loving wife, Annette, son David (Tracey), daughter Tracy (Scott), son Jefferey (Charlene), and his grandsons Curtis and Bryce Unrau, and Kyle and Brayden Holod. He also leaves his sister Mary and his brother Jake (Lily), many nephews, nieces, and in-laws. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Anna Unrau, his brother Peter and wife Margaret, and brother-in-law George Gerbrandt. Dave was born in Winkler, MB on July 27, 1938. He grew up in the Thames School District. He moved to Winnipeg in 1959 and worked in construction. He went to MIT (RRC) and got his journeyman carpenter papers. He married Annette Penner in 1962. In 1971, he moved his family to Stony Mountain and started D. Unrau Contruction, Ltd., which he operated until 1987. He then went back to school and got his real estate broker's license and opened Unrau Realty in 1987 in Stonewall. He retired in 2006. Dave and Annette bought their cottage at the Pointe' in 2001 and it became his favourite place to be. He loved fishing, boating, golf, and puttering in his new cottage garage. In the winter he would do wood turning, making various items for his family. Papa Davey loved watching his grandsons participate in their various activitiesschool concerts, curling, hockey, football, skateboarding, etc. He was very proud of all of them. Dad always did the right thing. Integrity and hard work were important to him. He was always joking and was friendly to all. He loved his family, and we will miss him terribly. The family wishes to thank Darlene and Doug Grantham for all of their help and support over the last four years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mennonite Disaster Fund, 6A-1325 Markham Rd., Winnipeg, MB R3T 4J6 or a charity of one's choice. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, September 19, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St. Stonewall. A private family interment will take place at Stonewall Cemetery.
