CARROLL ANN KNOX (published on September 20, 2011)

CARROLL ANN KNOX (nee LAING) July 2, 1939 - September 18, 2011 With great sadness we announce the death of Carroll, wife and mother, who peacefully passed away the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. Carroll was predeceased by her parents Harry and Ann, her parents-in-law George and Mary. Carroll is survived by her husband of 44 years, Barry of Paradise Village, Ste. Anne, her daughter Kim (Glenn) Laycock of Thompson, her son Blake (Tracy) of Seattle, Washington, grandchildren Brady, Trent, and Lance Laycock, Sienna and Justin Knox, and Ethan Wright. She is also survived by her sisters Sandra (Murray) of Kelowna, BC, Nancy of Ottawa, ON; sister-in-law Rosemary of Sherbrooke, PQ. She also leaves four nieces and three nephews as well as numerous grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Carroll was born and educated in Montreal, PQ. She lived and worked there until marriage in 1967, with a brief sojourn to Toronto for a year or so. Her honeymoon was spent on the train to Thompson, MB, where she and Barry resided for 40 years. After Barry's retirement, they travelled to Europe and the southern states of Arizona, Florida, and Texas, eventually buying a park model trailer at Trail's End in Weslaco, TX in 1999. The moved from Thompson to Paradise Village, Ste. Anne, MB, in 2007. In Thompson, Carroll worked at bookkeeping in banking and real estate, while raising her children. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and executive in minor hockey. She also curled and played golf. In Weslaco, Carroll and Barry enjoyed the warm winter weather, played golf, and cards, and held and attended dinner parties and happy hours. Carroll enjoyed golf and playing cards while in Paradise Village as well as cards at Steinbach 55+. Carroll was a very outgoing person who made friends easily, where ever she resided. Carroll's family would like to thank the many friends she made in Thompson, Trail's End, Paradise Village and Steinbach for the many emails, cards, flowers, phone calls, gifts, visits and prayers on her behalf. Special thanks to those who sat with her during her last weeks in the hospital. Many thanks to the nursing staff on Floor 1 South in Bethesda, the South Eastman paramedics for the trips to Winnipeg for radiation. A very special thanks to her family doctor, Dr. Trinh, for the daily visits to check up and comfort her, as well as confer with the family. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service and celebration of Carroll's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. Flowers are gratefully declined. For those who wish, a donation to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3, or a charity of choice would be appreciated.
