ELAINE IRVENE ROGERS (published on September 20, 2011)

ELAINE IRVENE ROGERS March 25, 1934 September 18, 2011 On Sunday, September 18, 2011 Elaine died at Riverview Health Centre at the age of 77 years. Elaine was born and raised in Starbuck, MB to Irvin and Elveena Reese, where she grew up as the eldest sibling to her brother Dennis and sister Judy. Elaine left Starbuck to become a registered nurse in Winnipeg, going on from there to work in California before returning to practice in Winnipeg. She worked part time as an Emergency room nurse and later as Director of Volunteer Services at the Grace Hospital, while raising, along with her husband David Rogers, their three children: Greg (Kathy), Jeff (Tracy) and Janelle (Alan) Franklin. Off duty, Mom attended to minor cottage emergencies - cuts, illness and the odd fishhook. She helped us through life's twists and turns, sometimes having to take us by the ear. She then became Nana, bringing joy and laughter to her six grandchildren: Nicholas and Kieran (Greg and Kathy); McKenzie and Harrison (Jeff and Tracy), Reese and Mathea (Janelle and Alan Franklin). The grandchildren will forever treasure their memories of playing, reading and swimming with Nana, who was always there to cheer them on. Funeral Liturgy will be Celebrated on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church, 255 Stafford Street at Corydon Avenue. Friends and family were Mom's great joy and through them she enjoyed a very rich life. With her friends and colleagues, they together accomplished much that lives on in their memories. The compassion of close friends and family in Mom's final months are deeply appreciated. We would also like to extend special thanks to the nursing staff on GW 3 and Rehabilitation Hospital in Health Sciences Centre, Dr. M. Johnson and Dr. M. Karpinsky, and Ms. L. Streeter, and the staff at Riverview Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers donations in Elaine's memory may be made to the Grace Hospital Foundation, 300 Booth Drive, Winnipeg, MB R3J 3M7 or The Winnipeg Humane Society, 45 Hurst Way, Winnipeg, MB R3T 0R3.
