IRENE GILL (published on September 21, 2011)

IRENE GILL Irene died peacefully on September 19, 2011 at Deer Lodge Centre. She was born in 1927 in Lumsden, SK. Her parents had travelled from England to be among the first to pioneer farming in the area. Irene had a few interesting roles in life including singing on the radio, telephone operator, Sunday school teacher, and many positions in helping out local churches. However she will be best remembered in her role as devoted to her family. Nothing gave her more pleasure than focusing on her husband Reg, two children and spouses, and two grandchildren. She and Reg lived in Saskatchewan until moving to Winnipeg in 1961. They had been married for an amazing 63 years until his death last year. Reg's devotion to Irene was a lesson in love to their family. After many decades of tending to their home and cottage, they moved to a suite at Lion's Estates when it opened, and she enjoyed several years of companionship with other residents there. In the last year and a half, Irene had several life-threatening illnesses, yet her ability to give and receive affection with her family continued strongly. Her faith also burned brightly throughout her life. Even after Irene could no longer talk just before her death, she could still shrug her shoulder up enough for a hug or kiss with her family! She leaves behind her children (Gaylene Siedleski and Daryl Gill) her son-in-law (Randy Siedleski), daughter-in-law (Eunice Gill) and grandchildren (Sara Siedleski and Ryan Gill). Irene's friends and family will gather for her funeral service at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, September 22 at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, at 4000 Portage Avenue.
