CHRISTINE DRUMMOND GRAHAM (published on September 21, 2011)

CHRISTINE DRUMMOND GRAHAM (nee LORIMER) November 16, 1914 - September 16, 2011 Peacefully at home, with her family by her side, Christine Drummond Graham, 96, passed away. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Alex. H. Graham. Christine is survived by her children, Barbara, Andrea, and Blair, and their families, Richard, Christian, Alexandra, and Taylor Battista, and Amanda, Stephanie, and Joanna Graham. She also leaves sisters Beth Stewart and Eleanor Muscroft and brother Alastair Lorimer and families. She was predeceased by brothers Frazer and Peter Lorimer. After attending school in Winnipeg, Christine worked as a legal secretary for McWilliams, Gunn, and Lennox, secretary in the Mortgage Department at the Sovereign Life Assurance Company, and as a legal secretary to the City Solicitor of the City of Winnipeg. During these years, she met her future husband, Alex Graham. They married after war was declared and were apart for more than five years. Christine contributed to the war effort through various volunteer activities, such as knitting, working at the United Services Centre, and serving in the Prisoners of War Association. Christine was devoted to her family, supporting their involvement in school and music activities. She taught Sunday School, served on the boards of the Junior Musical Club, the Women's Music Club, Parent-Teacher Associations, and on the Parents' Committee of the Manitoba Youth Orchestra. She took great pleasure in her involvement in the St. Agnes Guild, active on many committees, chairing the Shop Committee, working in the shop, knitting, sewing, and supporting the Annual Book Drive. Her life was greatly enriched by the arrival of her grandchildren and she delighted in their activities and accomplishments. The family would like to thank the caregivers whose attention made it possible for Mom to remain in her apartment at the Wellington and to live her final days in quiet dignity. The service of remembrance will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue, on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Donations may be made to The Children's Hospital Foundation of Manitoba Inc. or to a charity of your choice.
