ADELAIDE BREWSTER (published on September 24, 2011)

ADELAIDE BREWSTER Adelaide (Addie) Esther Brewster (Hancock) passed away peacefully, after an unexpected illness, on September 20, 2011 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, SK. Born in Hespeler, ON on February 5, 1926, Addie was predeceased by her parents; six siblings; son Tom in 1996; and husband Murray in 2003. She is survived by her three sons and daughters-in-law, Gregg and Edna, Dave and Mary Jane, and Allan and Rose, all from Regina, SK and Carol from Frisco, TX USA; nine grandchildren Michelle, Jeffrey, Jennifer, Katherine, Patrick, John, Kim, Crystal and Alexandra; great-grandchildren Cole, Cody, Ricci, Grace, William, Jane, Jillian, Kieran, Evan, and brother Bert Hancock. Addie spent her early life near Galt (now Cambridge, ON). She married her husband Murray there in 1945 following the Second World War while he was serving in the Royal Canadian Navy. They moved to Transcona, MB, now part of Winnipeg, shortly afterwards where Murray began a career with the Canadian National Railway and they started to raise a family. They moved to Rainy River, ON, Sioux Lookout, ON, Melville, SK and back to Transcona in 1971 where she worked with the Winnipeg Public Library for many years. Upon their retirement in 1989, Addie and Murray moved to a cottage on the Winnipeg River and later an apartment in Kenora, ON. Following Murray's passing, Addie moved to Regina in 2005 to be closer to her three sons and their families. Addie's faith was a sustaining foundation in her life and she was a devoted member of the United Church. She enjoyed spending time playing bridge, visiting friends and relatives, and travelling with Murray in the winters to Tucson, AZ and later Victoria, BC. She was an active curler and golfer and member of the Kenora Curling and Golf and Country Clubs. In Regina, she regularly played bridge at senior centers and spent time with family, recently travelling to Ireland with granddaughters Katherine and Michelle to visit locations where Murray was stationed during the war. Addie will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by family and friends. Upon cremation in Regina, a memorial service and interment will be held in Transcona, MB in late October. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Addie's memory to St. James United Church, 4506 Sherwood Drive, Regina, SK S4R 4B4 or to a charity of your choice. The family wishes to thank staff at the Regina General and Pasqua Hospitals (Palliative Care) for their kindness and support. Family and friends are invited to sign the online obituary and tributes page at www.regina-memorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home, (306) 789-8850.
