JOHN BJORNSON (published on September 24, 2011)

JOHN BJORNSON It is with great sorrow that we must announce the passing of John Bjornson on September 21, 2011 at Seven Oaks Hospital, with Nell at his side. John was a beloved Husband, Father, Afi (grandpa), Brother, and Friend. Left to grieve are his wife Nell, of 58 years; children Brian (Linda), Cameron (Marilyn), Lori (Chris) Savage; grandchildren Eric, Lisa, Daniel, Lyle, Laura, and Riley; siblings Franklin (Runa), Solrun Christiansen, Don (Hedy), Margaret Tobin, Siggi (Monica); sister-in-law Anne (Dave) Semenko, and Kristin Bjornson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. John was predeceased by his parents Gudmundur and Ragnhildur Bjornson, brothers Jack and Thor; sisters-in-law Mary Peters, Sveinbjorg Bjornson, Victoria Pastushenko, Mary Bjornson; brothers-in-law George Pastushenko, Moe Tobin, Pete Christiansen. John was born on July 27, 1927 in Framnes, Manitoba near Arborg. In John's early years he attended school in Arborg and worked the family farm. John then moved to Winnipeg in 1950 and found work as a welder at Flyer Industries where he worked for three years. It was at this time he met the love of his life, Nell, from McMunn, Manitoba and they were married on July 25, 1953. John then became a bus driver for Winnipeg Transit where he stayed for 14 years. He then moved to Motor Parts and Supplies for a short time moving to London Life Insurance for 14 years. John's final position was with Tasty Seeds until he retired in 1990. During his working years he did many side jobs in his home garage repairing cars, snowmobiles, building trailers, and a dune buggy. This is where he passed on his mechanical and building skills to his children. John was also an accomplished carpenter, building the family home in West St. Paul in 1959. He always had close ties with family and friends and loved a good party. He seldom missed a hunting trip to Arborg. John enjoyed his many camping and outdoor adventures, curling, boating, and tinkering in his garage. There was nothing he could not fix. In his later years John struggled with Arthritis and underwent many surgeries for the affliction, seldom complaining. John...we all considered you invincible having endured what you had, but regrettably the time has come to say farewell. Your fun loving way of life and good nature will be sorely missed by all. Flowers graciously declined. If friends so desire, donations in John's memory may be made to a charity of one's chose. A memorial service will be held at the Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main Street, West St. Paul, Manitoba on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111 www.gleneden-mb.ca
