ROCKLYND GORDON (ROCKY) HILL (published on September 24, 2011)

ROCKLYND GORDON (ROCKY) HILL Born on September 30, 1953 in Burnaby, BC, Rocky passed away suddenly on September 15, 2011 while visiting in Shenyang, China. Rocky will be sadly missed by his wife Lynda Walker, sons Ryan and Scott, his mother Irene, his sister Kelly (Tad), sisters-in-law Karen (Walter), Cindy, and brothers-in-law John (Joannie) and Mike (Connie), Uncle Eddy, and Aunt Marjorie. Rocky was a favourite uncle to nephews and nieces Stephanie, Kathryn, Ian, Andrea, Michael, Paul, Melyssa, David, Matthew, and Steven. Rocky was devoted to his family and enjoyed many hours of work on household projects. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to his many friends and family members. He enjoyed many outdoor activities including biking, camping, and hiking. He loved travel adventures and enjoyed the many places he and Lynda visited over the years and great road trips with his mother Irene and sister Kelly. Rocky was very proud of Ryan and Scott and enjoyed seeing them develop in interests and find careers that they enjoyed. Rocky graduated from Windsor Park Collegiate, in 1973 and received his commercial pilot's license in 1975. He completed Industrial Electronics at Red River College in 1979. He achieved his dream of joining Winnipeg Fire Department in 1988 and was proud to see his oldest son Ryan join the ranks in 2007. He leaves behind many good friends there. The family would like to thank their friends Marg and Peter Braid for all of their support in China. They are also grateful for the kindness and compassion of the staff at the College of International Education, Shenyang Institute of Engineering. In accordance with Rocky's wishes cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m., Immanuel Pentecostal Church, 955 Wilkes Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rocky's memory may be made to the Firefighters Burn Fund or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
