ALMA GRACE BONNETT (published on September 24, 2011)

ALMA GRACE BONNETT (nee FOGG) 1914 2011 Our mother Grace, at the age of 96, left a legacy of love on September 20, 2011. She leaves to mourn: her children Doug, Keith and Elizabeth; brothers Walter of Selkirk and Roy of Edmonton; her Bonnett family in-laws; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Jim in 2002, and her sister Irene, brothers Ron and Russ, grandson Williard, beloved in-laws, and dear friends. Mom worked in the Winnipeg Arena/Stadium Concessions for many years from the early 1960s, serving her regular customers at Bomber and Jet games, the Red River Ex, wrestling matches, circuses, concerts, 1967 Pan-Am Games, and other events. While raising a family, Mom was very active in Home Street United Church events, and the Orioles Community Club. She was a creative woman who liked to keep busy and wasn't afraid to try new things. Her skills as a housewife and mother were augmented with skills in tailoring, millinery, cake decorating and china painting, which she learned after turning 80! During the war, Mom installed brakes in Canada's fighter planes, and much later, she spent many days with friends and family (and pets) at the cottage Grace and Jim designed and built at Twin Lakes Beach. Mom loved family celebrations, especially Christmas, and dancing with Dad at socials and weddings. And once Dad retired, they enjoyed travelling together. Mom befriended many people, and chimpanzees and elephants, too, and loved to laugh. She will be missed. Thank you to the caring staff of Heritage Lodge and to her many friends there: you gave Gracie a loving home for her final years. There will be no funeral, simply a private remembrance. If you wish, please donate to a charity of your choice to honour Mom's memory. My life's been full, I savored much, Good friends, good times, a loved one's touch. Lift up your heart and share with me, God wanted me now, He sets me free.
