BEATRICE (BEA) MCKENZIE (published on September 26, 2011)

BEATRICE (BEA) MCKENZIE It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved sister and aunt, Beatrice (Bea) McKenzie, at the Middlechurch Home September 22, 2011, at the age of 97. Bea will be lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Mable Jopling and Marion Demetrioff, many nieces and nephews, as well as her extended family, Andrew, Joseph, John and their mother Sophie Mis. Bea was predeceased by her husband Jimmie in 1981. Bea was born in St. Boniface, and after her marriage she moved to East St. Paul, where she met many new friends. Bea enjoyed sports, especially softball and curling. She played catcher for a variety of ladies softball teams for 22 years, starting in 1930, winning many championships. She curled out of the Heather for many years, winning the first ever Mixed National Curling Championship in 1964, with the Ernie Boushy Team. Bea was inducted into the Hall of Fame five times for softball and curling. Bea also curled with her husband Jimmie, at the East St. Paul C.C. until he passed away. In accordance with Bea's wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A family gathering will take place at a later date. Many thanks to the Middlechurch Home for their years of dedication and care of Bea. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice.
