DOROTHY JULIA WRIGHT (published on September 27, 2011)

DOROTHY JULIA WRIGHT (nee BASLER) Our beloved mother passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2011, at St. Boniface Hospital with family by her side. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Rozann Broeska (Ken), of Winnipeg, her daughter Elaine, of Dublin, Ireland, her son Grant (Noella), of Winnipeg; her four grand-children, Philip Wright (Tracy), of Falkland, BC, Christopher Broeska (Lani), of Minneapolis, Jennifer Wood (Peter), of Vancouver, Heather Broeska, of Winnipeg; her great-grandchildren and her many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her dear husband Fred, her parents Jacob and Julia Basler and her five siblings, Wes, Minnie, Bill, Robie and Clifford. She was born on February 2, 1924, in Winnipeg and married Fred in 1948. Two years later they moved to St. Vital where they raised their family and remained for the rest of their lives. Mom taught for many years, first in Lydiatt, MB (1942 to 1943), then in Winnipeg at Wellington School (1945 to 1949) and at Minnetonka School (1961 to 1979). After retiring she completed a Bachelor's degree in anthropology at the University of Manitoba, an accomplishment of which we were all very proud. She was an avid gardener who also loved to cook and bake, talents that won her many ribbons in the annual St. Vital Agricultural Society fair. A voracious reader, Mom also enjoyed painting with watercolours, crocheting, sewing and needle work. She spent much time working on the family's genealogy, travelled extensively with Fred and enjoyed many happy times at the family cottage on the Bird River. An extremely active and healthy individual, Mom's untimely passing has come as a shock to her family and friends; she will be sadly missed by all. If friends so desire, a donation may be made to Agape Table at P.O. Box 26111 Maryland RPO, Winnipeg, MB R3G 3R3, or to a charity of their choice. A private family funeral will occur later this week.
