GRACE MITCHELL (published on September 28, 2011)

GRACE MITCHELL Peacefully on September 25 2011, Grace passed away with her family by her side. She was predeceased by her husband, Bert in 1979 and her parents Byrd Bowser and Mary Bowser (Smith). She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Barb Hulme (Stanley) of Victoria, BC; her son Ron Mitchell (Cindy) of Calgary, AB; her grandchildren Dianna Hulme, David Hulme (Sandy), Danny Mitchell and Nicole Goede (Pierce), and great-grandchildren Gregory Murray, Jordan Murray and Jacob Goede. She is also survived by her sister Ruth Hooker, sister-in-law Mary Bowser, and many nieces and nephews. Grace was born in St. Boniface, MB on October 7, 1919 and grew up in the Meadowdale area. She left home at an early age to work on farms in the local area. She met Bert while working on a farm in Petersfield and they married in December 1941. They moved to Selkirk at that time. She always worked in Selkirk and was a long time employee of the Selkirk IGA. After retiring she was very active in the Gordon Howard Seniors Centre (floor curling, bowling) and through her interests in quilting helped with fundraising for ARC Industries. Grace also enjoyed travelling with family and friends and one highlight was being asked to accompany the girls ringette team on some of their European and Asian trips. The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to the nurses and doctors of Selkirk General Hospital for their care and kindness. They would also like to give a special thank you to Aunt Ruth and her family for all the support they gave to Mum. A memorial service for Grace will be held on Wednesday, September 28 (today) at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church Anglican with Rev. Brad Elliott officiating. Interment to follow at St. Clements Cemetery and reception in the Christ Church Hall. In lieu of flowers, if you so wish, a donation may be made to a charity of your choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements. www.gilbartfuneralhome.com
