ALLAN LAWRENCE HARRIS 1939 - 2011 It is with heartfelt sadness that our family announces the passing of a special man, Allan Lawrence Harris, at the age of 72. Al will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Joyce. Loving father of daughter, Teresa; sons, Russell (Juanita); Gregory (Lorraine); his grandchildren, Robin (Mitch), Darryl, Kailey (Jay), Kristopher (Nicole), Leianne, Alexander, Ryan and great-grandchildren Charlize and Max. Dad will live forever in the hearts of his children, and he leaves us with a legacy of laughter, kindness, generosity, friendship and love. Al will also be missed and fondly remembered by sister Emily Cole of Melbourne, FL; brothers Robert (Mary Ann) of Edmonton, AB, Ronald (Lee) of Winnipeg; brothers-in-law James Anderson (Vivian) of Winnipeg, Gregory Anderson (Patricia) of Winnipeg; sisters-in-law Wendy Anderson of Saskatoon, SK and Lynn Frail (Paul) of Cold Lake AB; his many nieces and nephews, his many brothers and sisters-in-law, and many close and numerous longtime friends. Predeceased by his son Brian; parents Ann Oleksuik and Steven Harris; brothers Morris and Gerald. Al retired from the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1978 after serving 21 years. In 1994 Al retired from Transport Canada when Joyce and Al built their dream home on the lake in Bird River, MB. Al continued to work part-time and was one of the founding members of the Bird River Volunteer Fire Department, where he retired in 2010 as a deputy fire chief. Al had many interests, including volunteering, being a Winnipeg Blue Bomber season ticket holder, curling, golf and watching NASCAR. Al loved to work on his house where he was very handy whether it was woodwork, electrical, plumbing or mechanical. He passed on many of these skills to his sons and grandsons. A Committal service has taken place, and an announcement will follow for a Fellowship gathering at Neil Bardal Funeral Centre, at a future date. The Harris family would like to thank Dr. Patricia Harris and all of the staff at the Grace General Hospital for their caring and compassionate care during Al's stay. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 6 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6 or charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent to condolences@nbardal.mb.ca. NEIL BARDAL INC. FUNERAL CENTRE (204) 949 2200 www.nbardal.mb.ca
