STEVE THOMAN (published on October 01, 2011)

STEVE THOMAN 1925 - 2011 A full life suddenly and peacefully came to an end on September 25, 2011 at the age of 86 at Portage General Hospital. Steve is survived by his daughter Linda (Mitchell) Omichinski, sister-in-law Theresa Keller, and nephews John and Robert Keller. He was predeceased by his wife Katy of 61 years, his parents John and Eva Thoman, his brother-in-law John Keller and his sister Anna. Born in Romania, Steve immigrated to Canada with his parents at age four where he grew up in Chippawa, Ontario and Niagara Falls. Steve was a pleasant gentleman till the end, kind, caring, generous humble man with a huge heart for others and a devoted husband. He was also a dedicated and hard worker for Canadian Pacific Railway, serving 35 years in Montreal. Dad loved music, he played accordion and when that became too difficult, he took up the keyboard. After Mom's death Dad moved from Winnipeg to Portage La Prairie where he returned to his love of dance and was blessed to meet Anne Blain, his sweetheart of the past two years. The family would like to thank the staff of Portage Hospital Palliative Care Room for their compassion and quality of care. Also a special thank you to the community of Portage La Prairie who embraced Dad with love, and accepted him as he was. Combined with music, dance, walking, Anne, and an active life Dad was healed and had a sharp mind till the end. A memorial service will be held Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity United Church in Portage La Prairie. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trinity United Church Memorial Fund, 15 Tupper St. South, Portage La Prairie, R1N 1W7. Chapel Lawn 885-9715
