ALLAN DOUGLAS ZELMER (published on October 05, 2011)

ALLAN DOUGLAS ZELMER Peacefully on Sunday, October 2, 2011 with his family by his side Allan, age 78, passed to be with his Lord. He was predeceased by his parents, Julia (Zalinsky), Oscar Zelmer and his infant brother, Ronald. He leaves behind his wife of 56 years, Lorna (nee Fingler) who was the love of his life. Also left to cherish his memory is his daughter Loral Lacko (Larry) and grandsons Justin, Evan (Gianna Raynaud), his daughter Carla Zelmer (Tony Szumigalski) and granddaughter, Tsehay. Allan was very proud of all of his grandchildren. He provided guidance to all of us at different times in our lives. Allan was born in 1933 in Winnipeg and was married to Lorna in 1955. Allan enjoyed his successful 38 year + career with Air Canada. In 1975 he received his Certificate in Management from the University of Manitoba. He retired in 1990. The family enjoyed many vacations together at Brereton Lake cottage and in exotic locations. Dad loved woodworking and we cherish his creations including Japanese lanterns, birdhouses and decks. He was a handyman and over the years took courses in plumbing, electrical and masonry and took pride in his work. We will always have fond memories of feeding chickadees out of our hands with him at Birds Hill Provincial Park. Later in life, Dad became interested in genealogy and spent many years researching and compiling a database for future generations. Dad did everything with integrity. He often said, if you don't have time to do it right the first time, how will you have the time to do it right the second time? He was a long-time member of Sherwood Park Lutheran Church and was a very caring man that cherished his many relationships. We extend thanks to the people that provided compassionate care, including Dr. Kahn and those in the Concordia Hospital Oncology Clinic. We also thank family, friends and neighbours for their encouraging phone calls, rides to the hospital and visits. A memorial service will take place on October 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home, 1897 Henderson Hwy., Winnipeg. A private family interment will take place at a later date. If desired, donations may be made to Sherwood Park Lutheran Church (7 Tudor Cresc.), CancerCare Manitoba, or a charity of your choice. Heaven is a place where there is no pain, worry or fear. Dad, your suffering is over. We miss you but you are forever in our hearts and memories. KLASSEN FUNERAL HOME 1897 Henderson Hwy. 338-0331 Send expressions of sympathy at
