LESLIE GEORGE LOEWEN (published on October 26, 2011)



LESLIE GEORGE LOEWEN March 4, 1940 - October 24, 2011 Peacefully on Monday, October 24, 2011 at the age of 71, Les passed away surrounded by his family at the St. Boniface Hospital. He was predeceased by his parents Anne (Thiessen) and Peter F. Loewen and his brother Allan. He is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (Dick) of 49 years married on September 15, 1962; his sister Julie (Randell) Goossen of Morris, Manitoba; brother Gladwin (Pauline) Loewen of Beausejour, Manitoba; sister Darleen Loewen of Rosenort, Manitoba; and many nieces and nephews. Les was born on March 4, 1940 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Les grew up on the family farm outside of Rosenort Manitoba. He farmed until 1969 when Les and Dot opened their first business together. Les and Dot had several businesses including Fawn Products and U Do a Door . In 1979 the Loewen farm become home to the television show Ray St. Germain Country, later known as Big Sky Country. In the 1980s Les and Dot opened Big Sky Hobbies. Many customers and friends enjoyed spending time at their Big Sky Hobbies remote control airplane flying field and remote control car raceway on Waverley. Les enjoyed spending time outdoors working in the yard and also raised Emu. In 1998, Les and Dot opened Shooters Billiards and Lounge. Les and Dot have many wonderful memories of special times with close friends and family. Heartfelt thanks to the care provided by the Doctors and Nurses at the Buhler Cancer Centre in the Victoria Hospital, and the St. Boniface Palliative Care. Much love and gratitude to his dear friend Brad Dueck (Arlene), and nephew Kerry Anderson (Maggie) for their love and dedication to Dorothy and Les during this time. Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2011 at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, MB Division 193 Sherbrook St. Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9.
