VIRGINIA HANSON (published on December 19, 2009)

VIRGINIA HANSON Peacefully, on December 15, 2009 our dear mom passed away at Middlechurch Home at the age of 92. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughters Verna and Marlene, sons-in-law Aubrey and Steve, granddaughter Alisen, sisters Jo and Rita, brother Leonard and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Gustaf in 2006, her parents, her sisters Mary, Ann and Rose, brothers David and Tom. Born to Marguerite and Louis Chartrand on July 15, 1917, mom was the third of nine children, growing up in Oak Point, MB. She started working at an early age, first in Clarkleigh, MB where she had many fond memories and later moving to Winnipeg where she lived for the rest of her life. Mom met dad while they both served in the army. They married after the war and were together for more than 60 years. Having always wanted to travel mom counted as a highlight in her life the Caribbean cruise she and dad took on their 40th anniversary. She loved the many fun trips to Grand Forks and Las Vegas with her sisters. Mom was a trooper. She was a hard worker, incredibly well organized, and excelled at everything she did. She was an excellent cook, baker (making wedding cakes), seamstress, craftsperson and gardener. She was a stay at home mom for most of her life, creating a loving, happy home. Then in her mid 50s when the kids were gone, she decided to get out in the world and went to work at the Delta Hotel in banquet catering. She very much enjoyed this work and all the people she met. Mom and dad enjoyed many years at the cottage, first at Poplar Bay then at Lac du Bonnet. After dad died mom continued living on her own in the family home. Last year, at 91, she was still maintaining the house, planting her tomatoes and weeding the flowerbeds. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 21, 10:00 am at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. The family extends sincere appreciation to the caring staff at Middlechurch Home, where mom resided for the past six months. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to Middlechurch Home, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice. Thanks Mom, for blessing us with your ever-positive outlook, sense of humour and loving nature! Glen Eden Funeral Home 338-7111
