LUCY JOSEPHINE ZAHAYKO (published on April 17, 2010)

LUCY JOSEPHINE ZAHAYKO Peacefully, with family by her side on Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Lucy Zahayko, aged 78 years passed away. Lucy was predeceased by her parents Walter and Anne Lewicki; sister Vicki Randal and brother Paul Chernamoz. She is survived by her loving husband Paul; sons, Murray (Debbie), Bob (Gail) and Darren (Bonnie); grandchildren, Samantha, Taylor, Graham, Gregory, Brittany, Lee and Ryan; sister Olga as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Lucy was born in Canora, Saskatchewan on February 5, 1932. She moved to Winnipeg at the age of 18 to be reunited with Paul, whom she first met when she was 15. On July 18, 1953 they were married and settled in East Selkirk where they raised their family. Lucy enjoyed gardening and loved flowers. She was very proud of her garden. She also enjoyed having family over as often as possible and cooking big dinners for them, especially her world famous perogies. Her hobbies included painting Easter Eggs and traveling with Paul and friends. She also volunteered in East Selkirk at various community events. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 20 at 11:00 a.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in the East Selkirk Cemetery.
