QUEENIE WALTERS (published on May 29, 2010)

QUEENIE WALTERS (nee FORREST) We are saddened to announce that our beautiful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend passed away on May 27, 2010 at Concordia Hospital. Queenie was predeceased by her husband Tully Walters in 1998, siblings Edgar, Georgina, Alberta, Clare, Violet and Dick. She will be sadly missed by daughter Dixie, granddaughter Debora, Ron and Ronin, and grandson Brent, Laura, Kara, Aidan, Caleb, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Born on February 12, 1914 in Regina she was named after the Queen City but grew up and lived in Winnipeg for most of her life. Queenie worked hard all of her life including many years in the retail business, with Eaton's (pharmacy) and the commissary preparing sandwiches for 7-Eleven outlets. She also worked for many years at the Raber Glove sewing factory with her sisters and met Tully who worked nearby at Macleods. Queenie and Tully were married for 58 years. They loved spending time with family and friends and especially enjoyed their visits to Keewatin and Kenora for weekends of fishing, visiting, and playing cards. She loved cottage life and spent many happy times swimming and fishing at Davidson Lake. Queenie loved to travel and enjoyed trips to Hawaii where she also loved to swim in the ocean. Queenie was a true Aquarius, she celebrated her 90th Birthday at Disney World in Florida enjoying Epcot Centre, and swimming and tubing in the water park. She attributed her well-being and active mind to regular excercise and was a member of the EK Y's Eager Beavers for many years. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, quilting, knitting, and loved music attending many Pops concerts and Operas at the Concert Hall. Mom leaves all her family with many happy memories and the sense of profound love and gratitude. Goodbye Mom, you were dearly loved and are now in God's care. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Home. The family wishes to thank her many friends, Home care workers, and staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mom's memory to the missionary or humanitarian efforts of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 700 London Street, Winnipeg MB R2K 3T3.
