JOHN (JACK) MUNRO (published on September 16, 2011)

JOHN (JACK) MUNRO 1926 - 2011 Peacefully with his family by his side on Saturday, September 10, 2011, Jack passed away at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85 years. Jack will be dearly missed by Bernice, his wife of 60 years; daughter Vivian (Paul); son Allan (Lisa), son Ken (Irene); grandchildren, Leslie (Dennis), Christopher (Anita), Jennifer (Patrick), Janelle and Stefan; great-grand-children, Selena and Donovan; sister-in-law Eileen Munro and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, James and Minerva; and siblings, Margaret, Gladys, Jesse, Arnold, Ethel and Marjorie. Jack was born on March 30, 1926 in West Rosser and was the youngest of a family of seven. In 1934, the family moved to the Argyle district where Jack attended school. After leaving school, he worked on farms and drove transfer trucks before enlisting in the army in 1944. After the war, he worked in Flin Flon in the smelting plant and in Churchill for the U.S. Army during the winters and on the family farm during the summers. He met Bernice in 1948 at a dance in Warren, and they married in 1951. They bought a farm near Gordon, Manitoba in the same year. In addition to grain, the farm also had a laying hen operation, as well as roasting chickens. Farming was Jack's passion. He worked hard every day and without complaint. Jack and Bernice lived on the farm until 2008, when they moved to Winnipeg. Music was also important to Jack. He could play many instruments and was even in a band in his younger years. Jack was active in the community, being a Manitoba Pool delegate, as well as a minor hockey coach, and a 4-H leader. He was a great supporter of all the endeavors of his children and grandchildren. He was proud to attend concerts, music recitals, motocross races, and hockey and baseball games with his family. Jack and Bernice enjoyed travelling, taking trips to California, Cuba, Australia and Sweden, in addition to many holidays in Canada and the U.S. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 433 Main St. in Stonewall on Saturday, September 17 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date. The family wishes to thank Dr. Kotecha, Dr. Ahmed and Tamara, and the palliative care staff, particularly Monique. Your compassion and kindness will never be forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 2B7 or charity of your choice. You were always there when we needed you, No task too great or small, With loving heart and a willing hand, For us you did it all. Thanks for the years you gave us, And for the times we shared, We only pray when you left us, You knew how much we cared. We love you Dad MACKENZIE FUNERAL HOME, STONEWALL (204) 467-2525
